One moment, and it contains war, youth, and marriage

123A B17 circles overhead. Its sound and bulk conjure up nostalgia for a time I never lived. A couple marries on the front lawn of a prestigious inn. Three toddlers are convinced that, by spinning the ship’s wheel set up on the pier, they can make the ship go faster, faster, faster. They get too excited. One falls and scuffs a knee. His crying wakes his baby brother. A wedding song drifts over from the inn, and the event’s well-dressed photographer prances on the grass in high heels, planting herself in front of the bride’s parents as they rise from their chairs with hopeful smiles.

About Jenna Beaulieu

Jenna is a writer and fine art photographer who recently moved from the Saint John Valley region to the quiet side of Mount Desert Island. She’s a fan of excellent music, homemade gravy, and colored pencils (also, short books and long books, good pens, flannel, and when the June bugs don’t really come out much that year).
